The Ice Storm
In weather related news, what a crazy turn of events! I feel like my grandmother when I comment on the weather, but in this case it seems appropriate! Never fear, the roads will be cleared.
Tonight we are pleased to have Reagan & The Rayguns with Why Make Clocks, & Watching the Trainwreck. It all begins at 9 PM, we hope to see you then!
Tomorrow Tyrone is back spinning the hits and pouring the $1 Miller Lites. On Monday we are pleased to be the first to hear Animal Collective’s new Vinyl release, there was been a lot of drama on the ‘internet’ surrounding this release, CLICK HERE FOR THE DRAMA. I can’t wait to hear it! We’ll be giving some stuff away as well! This all goes down at 9 PM.
Thanks, we hope everyone had a great, safe holiday!
xoxo,
Slowdown
No CommentsVacation
Sometimes you plan a vacation, and it doesn’t really turn out like you imagined. In fact it looks nothing like it! That doesn’t mean it wasn’t fun, or exciting, just different.
If you’re on vacation in Omaha, we have a really nice weekend of shows to make sure you have a good time!
First off we are open Christmas! We will open at 7 PM. Tyrone Storm and BBC 123 will be spinning the hits and pouring drinks all night long.
On Friday we are pleased to announce our first official art opening. Kevin Jones has been taking photos at rock shows over the years, and we are proud to exhibit his work. The whole club will be open from 4 on, with the reception for his work happening between 6 - 8 PM.
After the “rock show” exhibit, we will be having a rock show featuring Outlaw Con Bandana, The Wagon Blasters, & Telechpathy.
On Saturday, we are pleased to host the reunion of The 1989 Chicago Cubs, with McCarthy Trenching, Ladyfinger, & Neva Dinova! A great night of music starting at 9 PM.
We hope to see you soon!
Happy Holidays,
Slowdown
No CommentsSlowdown Twitter’s
I am not even sure if Twitter is referred to appropriately in the title of this post? Is there supposed to be an an apostrophe? Well however you spell it, we are doing it. Our address is https://twitter.com/theslowdown/. See what we tweet about. Yes, I said tweet.
We won’t be neglecting the “blog” of the site, more than usual that is.
Tonight brings us the fine line-up of The Pendrakes, The Third Men, & Great Atomic Power which starts at 9 PM. Sunday Tyrone re-introduces us to Pavement’s landmark Brighten the Corners disc. He will be giving two copies of the disc away! If you win a copy you can re-gift it to your favorite relative, or impressionable niece/nephew, and make them realize the world outside of Britney Spears is a fabulous, incredible place. On top of that madness there will be $1 Miller Lites all night long!
Now that 2009 is staring us down, the proverbial ‘best’ of 2008 lists are appearing in every music publication across America. What were your favorites of the year? Or even your favorite show at Slowdown? Leave us a comment and let us know your thoughts.
If I had to be put in the hot seat, a few of my favorite Slowdown performances (in no particular order) would be:
MGMT & Yeasayer
Fleet Foxes & Blitzen Trapper
Atmosphere
Devotchka
Deerhoof
The Notwist
Speaking of the New Year, you may want to get your ticket to New Year’s GOO, we had to turn a bunch of folks away in 2008, and would hate for that to be you in 2009..
No CommentsTickets, Tickets…Get Your Tickets
Tickets are now on sale for the Tokyo Police Club and Ra Ra Riot show on March 16. And Saturday morning tickets go on sale for two (sweet!) Cursive shows on January 23 and 24. Get them all while they last.
Speaking of tickets and lasting, there are 13 tickets left for Girl Talk as I write this. Once they are gone, they are gone. No more will be available. So you know what you to do if you want to go.
Enough ticket talk. The one thing you won’t need here this weekend is a ticket…we have three totally FREE events this weekend:
- Tonight it’s Thunder Power!!!, Anniversaire and Darren Keen
- Saturday we have Jake Bellows (Neva Dinova), Landon Hedges (Little Brazil), and Alex McManus (The Bruces)
- And Tyrone wraps things up on Sunday with a night of tune spinningm featuring a Belle and Sebastien BBC Sessions listening party. This one is a 21+ event.
3 fun nights, all free. Can’t beat that, economy.
See you soon.
